*SOON* Ouessant Island (EU-065)

Worldwide DX Hunters and island chasers will soon have an opportunity to log a sought-after Atlantic island when a high-profile two-man team – 14DA028 Phil and 14DA070 Franck – activates Ouessant Island later this month…

The guys will be QRV as 14DA/AT-001 from 27–30 March 2026 as part of an island radio activation representing IOTA reference EU-065.

IBO Maps confirms that Ouessant Island lies off the western coast of Finistère in north-west France (14 Division)…

Recon indicates that it’s one of several islands that form the Bretagne (Finistère Northwest) Region Island group, making it a particularly interesting location for island radio enthusiasts and collectors of island references.

According to reputable DX databases such as Islands Base Online (IBO), Ouessant Island has not been activated since 2010, making this operation especially attractive for DXers hoping to log or confirm EU-065.

The team has been issued the callsign 14DA/AT-001, with the “AT-001” suffix representing the official regional island reference for Ouessant under the Des Iles de La France Métropolitaine (D.I.F.M.) program…

This reference identifies the island within the national mainland islands program and recognises activations conducted from these locations.

For the duration of the activation, the operators have secured ham-friendly accommodation near the village of Lampaul, providing a convenient base while allowing efficient antenna deployment close to the Atlantic coastline.

Ouessant Island is renowned for its dramatic Atlantic scenery and maritime heritage…

The island features rugged cliffs, open heathland, and windswept coastal landscapes shaped by powerful ocean winds and waves.

Several historic lighthouses stand on the island, including the famous Créac’h Lighthouse shown above, one of the most powerful lighthouses in Europe, guiding ships through the busy sea lanes of the English Channel and the Iroise Sea.

Its rocky coastline, grassy moorland, and traditional Breton villages make the island a distinctive and historically important outpost of Brittany.

Station Equipment

The team will operate a compact but capable portable station:

  • Transceiver: Yaesu FT-857
  • Amplifier: KL501
  • Antennas: Skypper and Bamby

With its exposed Atlantic location and excellent take-off toward Europe and across the Atlantic, Ouessant Island (EU-065) should provide an exciting opportunity for DXers worldwide.

Listen for 14DA/AT-001 between 27–30 March 2026, and good luck working the team!
