From the forested shores of the Baltic to the open highways of Europe, 310DA101 Tom brings a lifetime of radio experience to the airwaves, linking with our Dx Adventure Radio Club in May, 2026…
Now based in Latvia, this Irish-born OM (Pictured right) blends precision, passion, and mobility—equally at home behind a base station or calling CQ from the cab of his truck.
A seasoned DX Hunter with over 100 DXCC entities confirmed on the Eleven Metre Band, Tom is always within reach on the band, often monitoring the International Call frequency, 27.555 MHz USB, ready for the next contact.
Like most DA-RC Members, he’s also a licensed ham radio operator who confesses to a love of the 20m band.

Stretching along the Baltic Sea between Lithuania and Estonia, Latvia is a country where nature and history meet…
Nearly half of 310DA101 Tom’s nation is covered by forest, while its coastline offers long, unspoiled beaches shaped by wind and sea.
The capital, Riga, is renowned for its striking Art Nouveau architecture and the charm of its UNESCO-listed Old Town.
Beyond the city, Gauja National Park reveals stunning sandstone cliffs, winding rivers, and medieval castles on the air opportunities, while the seaside town of Jūrmala provides a more relaxed coastal escape.
It’s a landscape that offers both inspiration and space—perfect for a radio operator like Tom.

Originally from the Emerald Isle (Ireland), 310DA101 Tom has spent the past decade building his life and station in Latvia, residing in Vandzenes Pagasts within the Talsi Municipality…
From this quiet, rural setting, he operates a Yaesu FTDX10, a high-performance SDR transceiver delivering 100 watts across HF and 50 MHz, along with all-mode, all-band capability including C4FM (System Fusion) digital operation.
Tom’s antenna system is designed for reach and reliability, centered around a Cushcraft MA5B for five-band HF operation, supported by an end-fed long wire for added flexibility.
A Yaesu G-1000DXC Rotator provides the strength and precision needed to turn his beam and chase signals across the globe.

But 310DA101 Tom’s station doesn’t stay in one place for long…
As a professional truck driver, and a motor bike enthusiast, the road is his second operating position.
Whether parked up or on the move, he regularly goes mobile using either a Yaesu FT-891 or the compact and versatile Yaesu FT-857D—a true “shack-in-a-box” covering HF, VHF, and UHF.
His antenna of choice on the road is the Yaesu ATAS-120A vertical, allowing seamless ops across 7, 14, 21, 27, 28, 50, 144, and 430 MHz bands.

While travelling, 310DA101 Tom maintains a listening watch on 27.555 MHz USB, ensuring he never misses an opportunity to connect with rare DX or mates across the DX-scape…
This impressive DX-Guy has been QRV from multiple European DXCC entities, including England (26), Lithuania (311), Ireland (29), and Latvia (310), building a rich and diverse operating history across the continent.
His experience has earned him recognition as a veteran DX Hunter, with more than 100 DXCC entities worked and confirmed—an achievement that reflects both dedication and skill.

Beyond chasing DX, 310DA101 Tom enjoys the traditions that make the hobby special…
He collects QSL cards from around the world, each one a reminder of a contact made across distance and time, and he’s always keen for a relaxed rag chew when conditions allow.

Renowned as a sociable and friendly operator, 310DA101 Tom is the kind of voice you’re always glad to hear come through the speaker…
Away from the radio shack, he enjoys target shooting, applying the same focus and discipline that defines his operating style.
He’s also a former member of the Alfa Tango club, adding further depth to his long-standing involvement in the DX community.
From the historic streets of Riga to the forests, coastlines, and highways that shape his daily life, Tom embodies the spirit of the Dx Adventure Radio Club—experienced, adventurous, and always ready for the next call.
