*MEET* 16DA011 Geoff

From the delightful Kingdom of Belgium in Northwestern Europe, the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is proud to introduce to you leading 27 MHz DX-pert 16DA011 Geoff.

In addition to being a keen DX Hunter on the world’s best HF band, Geoff is an outdoors kinda guy; one who enjoys the delight of travel, the thrills and spills of cross country bike riding, and much more!

Whether it’s from his main QTH in Belgium or a second home in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (54), this passionate and motivated guy is never far from a radio shack or an ear on the international call frequency, 27.555 MHz USB.

Previous experiences with the Alfa Tango and Hotel Florida clubs, over the course of the last 32 years, ensure his DX resume is a credible one.

A long list of achievements, in fact, ensures his membership with the DA-RC is satisfied through both the DX Hunter and DXpeditioner categories respectively.

DX Archives also name Geoff as Team Leader of several Islands On The Air (IOTA), Inland Water Islands (IWI) and Windmills (MILL) activities.

Reports suggest that several Summits On The Air (SOTA) dxstinations are on his radar in the not so distant future, also.

16DA011 Geoff’s country, Belgium, is known to be one of the smallest and most densely populated European countries.

According to the World Atlas, this magnificent DXCC is bordered by the Netherlands (19 Division) to the north, Germany (13) to the east, Luxembourg (54) to the southeast, France (14) to the south, and the North Sea to the west.

Here it has some 60 km of shoreline.

Art, music, and architecture play a big role in Belgian life and history.

The comic strip is highly regarded, with “Tintin” and “The Smurfs” both originating in the country.

Sports are also popular in Geoff’s country, with soccer being the most-played sport behind cycling and tennis.

Waffles, moules frites (mussels served with French fries), and chocolate are three of the most popular Belgian foods.

No doubt these make for delicious shack-snacks when hunger strikes!

Photographs submitted by Geoff tell the story of an impressive, multi-purpose shack, designed to access a multitude of bands, including the upper echelon and international section of 27 MHz.

Two modified ICOM rigs — the IC-7300 and IC-706 MKII — along with the TS-870 transciever by Kenwood, provide viable options for DX work and enable him to monitor several parts of the spectrum at once.

Outside his home, are a selection of antennas for DX mastery…

These include a Spiderbeam, 21 m long inverted V dipole and 5/8 vertical (Shown above), as well as a loop and 4 element yagi (Shown below) which are both homemade.

Far from the office work of his job as an Accountant, 16DA011 Geoff’s penchant for adrenalin packed past times is also evident in his fondness of competitive cycling

This takes him into the countryside where he battles rugged terrain consisting of steep forest trails, creeks and the pressure of other competitors.

A love of travelling also goes hand in hand with a devotion to dx adventure!

16DA011 / 54DA011 Geoff is QRV most days on the 27 MHz.

He’s an active listener for ‘Most Wanted’, rare or interesting DX, but shows a compelling interest in logging island stations.

To exchange a QSL card with Geoff after a contact with either his 16 or 54 division allocated callsigns, please see the info below.
