From newly identified castles and fortresses to undocumented lighthouses, lightships, and islands (both N/V IOTA and V IOTA), our team continues to push the boundaries of what’s known and accessible in the 11m DX world.
One of the most recent and exciting achievements comes from 165DA101 Alex, who in early 2025 discovered a stunning historical church located in the Sarcidano area of south-central Sardinia.
Known as the ‘Chiesa di San Sebastiano’ church, this special religious landmark sits on a small, artificial lake island—San Sebastiano—formed by the Barrocus Dam and its catchment of the meandering Mannu River.
What made this discovery remarkable?
The island had never been listed in any official Inland Water Island (IWI) register!
Thanks to 165DA101 Alex’s detailed reconnaissance and logistical data, which was submitted to the Islands Base Online (IBO) administration, tranquil San Sebastiano Island has now been formally recognized as a new IWI reference—a proud milestone for both Alex and the DA-RC.
But Alex didn’t stop at discovery—he activated the island for the first time on 11 meters, reaching its shores by paddle boat alongside his wife and a fully portable DX station in May 2025.
His work not only brought a brand-new IWI into the spotlight, but also showcased the kind of dedication and leadership that defines our Club.
165DA101 Alex’s efforts, especially within the innovative Sardinia & Italy Beauties Award (SIBA) initiative, continue to open up new and meaningful opportunities for the global 11m DX community.
This is DX adventure in its purest form—and we’re proud and grateful to have operators like 165DA101 Alex leading the way.

My curiosity to explore and discover new corners of this marvelous island, where I’ve lived for eight years, is what drives and motivates me every day. Being here for a relatively short time is a big advantage: for me, the island is still completely uncharted territory! The portable activations have been the perfect way to share its beauty with all of you.
Every DA-RC operator and activator is a true ambassador for their local area, with a unique opportunity to highlight its most fascinating features. That’s why the SIBA TEAM and I strongly wanted the SIBA Award: to make this journey even more exciting. We’ve added splendid electronic certifications for each activation, along with e-QSLs and physical QSL cards for the most deserving sites.
And we haven’t forgotten the Hunters! Their dedicated rankings are a fun way to test their consistency and, why not, even the luck of having favorable propagation during one of our activations.
