Below is an excerpt from the official log for 266DA/0C-024, marking the first-ever activation of Wood (Aka Woody, or Parish Island).

Located on the edge of the vast lagoon of Kiritimati Atoll, in the Burgle Channel, this never-before activated Islands On The Air (IOTA) entity is uninhabited but known locally as a popular picnic destination for islanders, who can travel there by boat and anchor up on its idyllic shores.

It sits within clear sight of nearby Cook Island, a restricted-access bird sanctuary, and lies just a few hundred metres across the lagoon from the abandoned Paris Settlement on the main island of Kiritimati (Christmas Island).

Undertaken by 43DA001 Darren, 266DA101 Sam and friends, this activation was part of a 12-hour, true portable DX adventure, operated from a spectacular sand cay on the lagoon’s outer rim, conducted as a day trip from the main island during the wider 266DA/0 activity.
