Defying the Silence: Beauty Triumphs Over Propagation Dips
The month of April 2026 served as a true “maturity test” for the World Beauties Award (WBA) and its growing number of enthusiasts…
While March was characterized by generous openings and stable signals, April presented a significant technical challenge: a noticeable drop in propagation activity across the 11-meter band.
Despite the ionospheric instability and signals often hovering near the noise floor, the tenacity of our activators and the unwavering interest of the Hunters allowed us to achieve considerable results in terms of QSOs.
This proves that the charm of the WBA transcends solar whims and atmospheric adversity.

The Soul of the WBA: Resilience and Quality
In many ways, the evolution of the WBA this month was defined by resilience…
While in March the propagation facilitated high numbers from base stations across Europe, in April, operators had to “hunt” for signals, frequently moving to more favourable portable field locations to compensate for the band closures.
Monthly Highlights: A Comparative Analysis
The Field Leader: 165DA101 (Alex)
Despite the technical downturn, Alex did not retreat a single inch…
March: 4 activations, 621 QSOs.
April: He responded to the propagation challenges by increasing his output to 7 activations, totaling 648 QSOs.
Highlight: The Rite of S’Incontru activation (227 QSOs) was a masterpiece of radio timing, executed during the few stable DX windows of the month.

Team Strength: 30DA010 Sergio & 30DA202 Javier
The stylish Spanish team managed the 11-meter instability with a constant and professional presence.
Performance: A grand total of 361 QSOs illustrates the team’s ability to remain on-air during long hours of “dead band” allowing many Hunters to log rare references like the Procession of the Holy Burial (150 QSOs).
International Revelation: 14DA001 Stef
From France, an impressive result given the atmospheric conditions was 103 QSOs from the Castle of Montchenu.
This is a clear sign of how geographical positioning and antenna quality make the difference when propagation is scarce.

Final Balance & Evolution
Analysis of data submitted to the WBA Team, compared to the March, report indicates that although the total of 1,321 QSOs is slightly lower than March’s 1,600, the number of activations increased.
This indicates that with less propagation, activators worked harder to cover more ground.
Consistency was maintained and despite “radio blackout” days, the WBA schedule suffered no interruptions.
Instead, April rewarded those with “good ears” and patience while WBA Hunters had to refine their skills to extract signals from the noise.
Conclusion & Outlook for May 2026
April taught us that the WBA is a solid community that does not stop for ionospheric tantrums….
Achieving over 1,300 QSOs during a month of poor propagation is a resounding success.
For May, as the summer season approaches and we anticipate the return of “Sporadic E” propagation, we expect an explosion of signals.
The focus will shift to coastlines and lighthouses.
