The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is thrilled to introduce 202DA108 Tashi – new member from the mystical Kingdom of Bhutan!
A licensed ham radio operator, Tashi joins the club in late September 2025, bringing a spark of enthusiasm, curiosity, and a deep passion for amateur and freeband radio.
Already eager to connect with hams and 11m DX Hunters around the globe, Tashi is poised to make a meaningful mark on the DX community.
Tashi’s journey into radio comms began when he met Giovanni 41DA981 during Giovanni’s visit to Bhutan for 202DA0.
Inspired by the encounter, Tashi quickly fell in love with the hobby and has been keen to expand his knowledge and expertise ever since.
Today, he looks forward to learning from experienced DA members, sharing his own experiences, and building friendships across the airwaves via his new ICOM transceiver and skypper antenna – both generously donated by 41DA981 Giovanni.
About Bhutan:
Nestled high in the Himalayas between India (57 Division) and China (203 Division), Bhutan is a land of breathtaking mountains, lush valleys, and vibrant traditions.
Often called the “Land of the Thunder Dragon,” Bhutan prioritizes Gross National Happiness over economic growth, creating a culture deeply rooted in balance and community.
With a population of just over 750,000, the country has seen limited amateur radio activity over the years—making Tashi’s participation especially significant.
By getting on the air, he opens rare opportunities for hams worldwide to connect with this unique DXCC.
An avid mountain trekker, Tashi has big plans for Summits On The Air (SOTA) projects, exploring and activating new peaks.
202DA108 Tashi resides in Paro, a town and seat of Paro District, in the Paro Valley of Bhutan.
It’s an historic town with many sacred sites and historical buildings scattered throughout the area.
It’s also home to Paro International Airport, Bhutan’s sole international airport.
Paro’s most renowned landmark is the iconic Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), a spectacular monastery that clings dramatically to a cliff face 900 meters above the valley floor and is a sacred site where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated.
The town is also home to the magnificent Rinpung Dzong (Fortress on a Heap of Jewels), a massive fortress and monastery that serves as the administrative and religious center of the district, showcasing stunning traditional Bhutanese architecture.
Other key attractions include the National Museum of Bhutan, housed in a former watchtower, and Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, dating back to the 7th century.
Beyond the mountains, 202DA108 Tashi loves traveling, meeting new people, riding motor bikes, and immersing himself in nature.
He is also keen to learn antenna building techniques and eventually dive into DXpedition work from nearby countries.
202DA108 Tashi is committed to maintaining a regular presence on 11m, operating from the international call frequency of 27.555 MHz USB, ensuring DXers can easily find and connect with him.
He will personally manage his QSL affairs. To obtain a QSL card confirming a contact with his station, a contribution of $3 USD plus a self-addressed envelope (SAE) is required.
PayPal requests are not offered, as Tashi prefers to collect the cards directly—adding a personal touch to each exchange.
Professionally, 202DA108 Tashi works as a cultural and trekking tour guide, giving him a unique perspective on Bhutan’s landscapes and communities.
Through his radio activities, 202DA108 Tashi hopes to provide greater access to this rare DXCC for the 11m DX community and make many new friends on the air.
Join us in welcoming Tashi to the DA-RC!
We look forward to countless QSOs, exciting DX adventures, and sharing the joy of amateur radio from one of the world’s most extraordinary kingdoms.
