*MEET* 155DA523, Jyh-Min

Our Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is thrilled to welcome 155DA523 Jyh-Min, a passionate explorer of both airwaves and the wider world, to our international family.

From the vibrant streets of Xitun District, Taichung City, 155DA523 Jyh-Min brings a unique blend of curiosity, creativity, and technical skill, bridging the worlds of science, culture, and radio comms.

Whether tuning across the bands chasing DX signals, he embodies the adventurous spirit that makes our DA-RC community so special!

Based in the heart of central-western Taiwan, Xitun District is a hub of modern architecture, leafy parks, and cultural landmarks, including the stunning National Taichung Theater and the sweeping Taichung Metropolitan Park.

From a DX perspective, Taiwan carries the IOTA reference AS-020, making 155DA523 Jyh-Min’s location highly sought-after for island hunters worldwide.

Locals often greet each other with a friendly “你好” (Nǐ hǎo), a simple hello that perfectly reflects the warmth and curiosity 155DA523 Jyh-Min brings to every QSO.

155DA523 Jyh-Min’s station sits within grid square PL04lf, and his radio background includes membership with the Taoyuan Amateur Radio Club and operation under his ham callsign BX4AFJ.

Although new to the 11m community, 155DA523 Jyh-Min is no stranger to the airwaves.

Previously known on 11m as 155TW523, he now proudly carries the Delta-Alfa callsign as he broadens his DX horizons and deepens his participation within the international community.

Jyh-Min’s radio station is centered around Yaesu equipment, including both the FT-897 and FT-950 transceivers, paired with a Yaesu FC-707 antenna tuner, and a 20m end-fed dipole antenna.

When active on 11m, operators will often find him monitoring the International Call Frequency 27.555 MHz USB, listening for emerging propagation and long-distance openings.

This setup supports his passion for DX hunting, SWL, and relaxed rag chew conversations, where the joy is found not just in the contact, but in the connection.

As he says, “無線電是一座橋梁” (Wúxiàndiàn shì yī zuò qiáoliáng) — “Radio is a bridge.”

A valued part of 155DA523 Jyh-Min’s journey has been the guidance and generosity of experienced operators who shared knowledge and encouragement in his early radio days…

In particular, he expresses sincere appreciation for 155DA441 Gary, whose mentorship, patience, and friendship helped shape his confidence and operating style.

For our newest Tai-Guy, Elmers like Gary represent the true heart of the radio world: community, curiosity, and shared discovery.

As the Taiwanese saying goes, “前人栽樹,後人乘涼” (Qián rén zāi shù, hòu rén chéng liáng) — “Those who plant trees enjoy shade for generations,” reflecting the value of mentoring in the hobby.

Away from the microphone, 155DA523 Jyh-Min leads a rich and creative life…

He is a professor at Tunghai University, specializing in biodiversity conservation, a field grounded in observation, patience, and respect for the interconnectedness of living systems.

His personal interests include the outdoors, black and white film photography and darkroom printing, classical piano, road cycling, and scuba diving.

He also has a deep affection for the 1970s era, drawn to its aesthetics, music culture, and the tactile, analog quality of life that defined it…

This is reflected in his love of classic Vespas, including his 1977 Vespa 90 (gold) and 1976 Vespa Sprint Veloce 150—machines that embody craftsmanship, simplicity, and timeless style.

More broadly, Jyh-Min is fascinated by old technologies that changed the course of history and shaped the shared culture we know today…

Whether radios, cameras, instruments, or early mechanical innovations, he sees these as living artifacts of human creativity, still capable of inspiring wonder and connection.

As he often remarks, “舊物也有靈魂” (Jiù wù yě yǒu línghún) — “Old things have a soul.”

Whether on HF or in daily life, 155DA523 Jyh-Min brings curiosity, reflection, and a spirit of exploration—qualities that align beautifully with the ethos of the DA-RC.
