*DX NEWS* French LOTA Active Soon

The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is delighted to announce that skilled DXpeditioner 14DA021 Phil will be QRV from the Phare du Cap Leucate Lighthouse in late July, 2024, for an exciting Lighthouse On The Air (LOTA) activity.

Situated high on the cliffside of picturesque Cape Leucate, overlooking nearby seascapes and with Étang de Leucate—the Occitanie/Pyrenees-Mediterranean region’s second largest lagoon—to its west, this spectacular Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society (ARLHS) listed structure carries the reference FRA-230.

In fact—for serious Freeband LOTA Hunters—it’s guaranteed to be high on the priority list for the 7 days 14DA021 Phil will be active!

Comparable with the World Atlas, The Phare du Cap Leucate lighthouse is located in the south-eastern part of the Corbières maritimes in the harmonious French Department Aude.

Evidently, it’s a coastal space renowned for passionate kite and wind surfers; one which is situated between beautiful Leucate Beach, La Franqui Beach and Leucate Village in southern France.

History reveals that this unique lighthouse—white tower with unpainted trim and red lantern—was constructed in 1950 and finally illuminated in 1951.

A masonry tower, with a square tower, balcony and lantern and some 19.4 m high, FRA-230 is known to be an automatic but guarded lighthouse; one which is listed in France’s general inventory of cultural heritage.

Extensive reconnaissance efforts by 14DA021 Phil in preparation for his exciting week-long dx adventure too this far-flung lighthouse indicate that visits to this prospective LOTA entity are not permitted.

With this in mind, our ambitious dx adventure man will be QRV within the 1000m radius of the light, with an effective portable station, therefore satisfying ARLHS operation guidelines.
