From Texas, the 2nd largest state in the United States of America, ‘big gun’ Freeband DXer 2DA082 Tim links with our Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) in August 2018.
A former G.R.I. Alfa Tango (AT) ally, past Sugar Delta (SD) callsign holder and current long-standing member of the famous Knight Patrol (KP) club since 1999, our top US club man Tim is without question one of North America’s most highly proficient, most highly thought-of and most fruitful DX Hunters of the modern era.
History confirms that 2DA082 Tim is a qualified Islands on The Air (IOTA) DXpeditioner, a proficient portable op also and a high functioning, clued-up and affable ‘rag chewer’.
Tim’s inclusion to the DA-RC’s 2 Division ranks continues our club’s mushrooming expansion into the Americas moving into Sun Spot Cycle 25.
Essentially, few could match with 2DA082 Tim’s credentials in the empire of 11m DXing in the past 25 years…
In addition to a distinguished 200+ DXCC rap sheet + systematic IOTA dxcapades undertaken in and around the Gulf of Mexico, Tim is perhaps more famously known for TX fixed portable ops from one of the world’s longest piers and day to day comms from this most dxquisite QTH.
In the south-central region of the country and neighboring parts, our 2DA082 Tim is QRV on Freeband frequencies most hours of the day from 12:00 UTC to 24:00 UTC.
This on the road from his truck during daytime hours of employment, as well as from the home shack when — BOOM — he’s always a big signal into some of the world’s rarest Dxpedition stations.
More particularly, Tim’s very active on SSB, SSTV and CW and outside of that, can normally be found monitoring 27.580 MHz USB or 27.640 MHz USB.
In anticipation of an upturn in propagation on 27 MHz frequencies, already Tim has, in his sights, a series of exciting IOTA and LOTA activities that will no doubt have the world’s premier island Hunters in a VFO spin.
In the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) allocated Texas State East (Matagorda to Jefferson County) IOTA group (NA-143), superb island DXstinations such as Galveston Island and Pelican Island have already been shortlisted for an appearance on Tim’s dx adventure calendar.
According to the atlas, 43.5 km long and no more than 4.8 km wide at its widest point, Galveston Island is a barrier island on the Texas Gulf Coast, about 50 miles southeast of Houston.
Pelican Island, furthermore, is linked to Galveston Island by the Pelican Island causeway. The island is home to the Texas A&M University at Galveston as well as USS Stewart (DE-238), USS Cavalla (SS-244), and Seawolf Park. Seawolf Parkway is the only street that runs across the island.
“I look forward to working all the DA-RC family around the world in the coming years…” says Tim.
And from a club perspective, nothing excites us more!

Been in radio all my life, I have been a radio tech and got my commercial license when I was 18 in 1969. My first CB was a walkie talkie then had the use of a General Electronics MC_5 and after that I can’t keep track. I like building and experimenting with antennas. I also hold an amateur radio advanced license as well as GMRS. I have also done aviation radio repair. I don’t know everything but I do know some things…
