Attention, Freeband Island Chasers — four long-awaited Cyclades islands are about to come alive on the bands, and prominent dx adventurist 13DA012 Joe is bringing them within reach once again!
Miles from his home in western Europe, 13DA012 Joe will undertake an exciting Islands On The Air (IOTA) Tour of several islands in the Kyklades (Cyclades) Group, EU-067, in mid-August 2026.
Excitingly, 13DA012 Joe will be active in this spectacular southeastern Europe country for almost two weeks, operating from no less than four picturesque islands within the Cyclades:
Amorgos — last activated in 2010- Milos — last activated in 2009
- Naxos — last activated in 2015
- Ios — last activated in 2011
To differentiate between the Cyclades islands during the tour, Joe will use each island’s acronym attached the 18DA prefix, rather than the EU-067 IOTA reference.
The Cyclades are a spectacular group of islands situated in the southern Aegean Sea, southeast of mainland Greece and Athens.
They form one of the principal island groups of the Aegean archipelago and comprise around 220 islands and islets.
While the region is renowned worldwide for its iconic whitewashed villages, blue-domed churches and beautiful beaches, the Cyclades also include numerous quieter islands with rich histories and traditional communities.
For serious DX Hunters, however, the Cyclades offer something even more appealing — rare and long-awaited island activations.
With Amorgos, Milos, Naxos and Ios having not been activated for many years, Joe’s tour is expected to attract considerable interest from IOTA and DX enthusiasts around the world.
History confirms that 13DA012 Joe is one of the DA-RC’s leading DXpeditioners and brings extensive experience to the project.
During the tour, he’ll be operating a Kenwood TS-50 transceiver, with Skypper and DX Power SSD-58 antennas.
Joe will also utilise the DA-RC Live Log, allowing operators to monitor activity and confirm their QSOs throughout the tour.
