Attention DX Hunters!
Our esteemed Canary Islands crew—consisting of 34DA010 Saul, 34DA101 Berto and 34DA183 Juan Carlos—will soon be QRV as Special Event Stations (SES) to celebrate the Carnaval of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This colourful cultural cavalcade is an annual event and is known to attract visitors from all over the world!
Celebrated since the time of the earliest European settlement, the Carnaval of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is held every February–March (depending on the year) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This QTH is the capital of the largest island of the Canary Islands and where our trio of talented DX Men reside.
The festivities on the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife are known to start on the Friday before the Carnaval.
It begins with an opening parade, which reaches its height during the night when thousands of people in fancy dresses dance until the early hours of the next day.
The party continues night after night until Ash Wednesday — a day on which the people of Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrate the “entierro de la sardina” (burial of the sardine).
The following weekend is the weekend of the Piñata.
Thousands of people come each day to the streets to participate, most of whom wear a disguise in accordance with Carnaval tradition.
34DA010 Saul, 34DA101 Berto and 34DA183 Juan Carlos are thrilled to collaborate for this on air DX-travaganza and rejoice one of their country’s most precious events.
On air, these guys will be easily identifiable via their callsign suffix — 34DA/CAR by Saul, 34DA/NA by Berto and 34DA/VAL by Juan Carlos.
The challenge for international DX Hunters is to contact all 3 Delta-Alfa stations from the Spanish archipelago and so piece the word ‘CARNAVAL’ together!
