From the picturesque state of Victoria, in south-eastern Australia, the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is honored to present to you hot-shot Freeband DX Hunter and self-proclaimed ‘man of the land’—43DA123 Brian.
One of the most highly respected, most proficient, and most popular guys in the Oceania region, 43DA123 Brian is not only an accredited ham radio operator since the early 2000’s—with an extraordinary skillset to match—but he’s also a long-time 11m DX enthusiast.
Indeed, through double-decade long past involvements with the Alfa Tango (AT) and International Radio (IR) clubs respectively, Brian has established a standing as one of Australia’s best ever Freeband DX Hunters.
More than 200 DXCC entities confirmed, as a matter of fact, sees him at the top echelon of Freeband DX Hunters in the country and easily qualifies him for DA-RC Membership via the ‘Hunter category’.

History says that 43DA123 Brian has been QRV in radio communications for more than 50 years from various Australian states and territories.
He’s ridden the highs and lows of solar cycles, seen clubs with big stories and big promises come and go; and positioned himself perfectly for a shot at the elusive 300 DXCC mark with his new Delta-Alfa callsign.
Hugging the tip of Australia’s east coast, 43DA123 Brian’s state, Victoria, is Australia’s second-smallest state, covering 227,600 square km – roughly the size of the British Isles.
Home of the helmeted honeyeater, Victoria packs a punch with diverse attractions which include stunning natural wonders, prolific wildlife and a vibrant food and wine scene that celebrates the state’s primary producers.
Pictured above, the Twelve Apostles are captivating limestone stacks on the edge of the ocean, surrounded by hiking trails, lush rainforest, beaches and national parks.
Victoria, along with its capital city Melbourne, host some of Australia’s most prestigious events throughout the year…
They include the Spring Horse Racing Carnival culminating in the Melbourne Cup, the Australian Open Tennis, Melbourne Food & Wine Festival and the Formula 1™ Australian Grand Prix, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and international jazz, film and writers’ festivals.
When he’s not behind the mic chasing DX or rag chewing with mates up and down the coast, our club’s newest addition identifies listening to music, camping and freshwater fishing as preferred past times.
He’s also partial to a game of Australian Rules football and is a huge fan of the Carlton footy club.
Combine these with a cold beer at the end of the day, and a trout or 2 on the BBQ or smoker, and it’s the perfect way to end a tough week, working on the land and tending to gardens (See below) on his tractor.
For a proven performer on 11m frequencies, it’s not surprising that 43DA123 Brian has accumulated one of the best home DX stations in the country.
His radio shack, in fact, resembles a ham swap-meet with no less than 5 transceivers (Kenwood, Icom, Cobra and more), side-by-side on the bench top, and a host of outstanding dx-cessories.
It’s a mind-blowing DX line-up indeed, and one which guarantees his station in the lower parts of Australia is heard with some regularity.
Outside his home, a gigantic 8 element dual-driven yagi is 43DA123 Brian’s choice of Freeband DX weaponry.
It ensures his TX signal resonates as one of the loudest on any one of the band’s call frequencies and is delivered to all corners of the globe!
Nice to meet you on air on your Field Day DXpedition.
Welcome to the club.
