*MEET* 3DA109 Cezar

Veteran hobbyist; experienced ham and specialist Freeband DX Hunter, and a super popular guy in the South American radio community; the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is thrilled to introduce to you 3DA109 Cezar from the Federative Republic of Brazil.

Pictured above, 3DA109 Cezar connects with our club in mid January, 2023, providing yet another high-profile and professional addition to our already outstanding 3 Division team!

Active in radio communications since 1977, but absent in the last few years due to other responsibilities, this outstanding DX Man has attained—worked and confirmed—more than 100 foreign countries.

Consequently, 3DA109 Cezar easily satisfies stringent DA-RC membership requirements in the DX Hunter category.

History says that these divisional entities were accomplished on 27 MHz frequencies as an independent operator—3 SIERRA CHARLIE 101—and will no doubt increase dramatically over the course of Cycle 25 with many more prospects on the horizon.

3DA109 Cezar’s home is the city of Blumenau in the South Region of Brazil— known as the country of football with world-renowned footballers such as Pelé and Neymar born there..

It’s situated in the state of Santa Catarina, in a valley bisected by the Itajaí-Açu River, surrounded by hills with forests.

Interestingly, the city is famous for the Oktoberfest of Blumenau.

Featuring folk dance (Tanzgruppen), shooting matches (Schützenvereine), German singing, folk costume and German cuisine, this event is held every October and attracts over a million tourists every year.

Moreover, the biggest German festival in the Americas, the Oktoberfest of Blumenau is also the second biggest Oktoberfest celebration in the world after the original Oktoberfest in Munich.

Other fascinating features of 3DA109 Cezar’s home QTH are the Carlos Gomes Theater (Pictured below)—considered the best small-sized convention center in the South region—and the Serra do Itajaí National Park which is mostly covered by rain forest in the basin of Itajaí river.

3DA109 Cezar’s platform for unadulterated DX-success is an impressive one indeed.

His station consists of several ham and citizens band transceivers — an ICOM IC-718, a DDS modded Cobra 148 GTL, USDR Red Corner QRP and FT-2200 by Yaesu.

Pictured left, a 2-element delta loop antenna—high above his residence—provides exceptional directional functionality on the 11m band while a DX Camp vertical offers superb omnidirectional capability for local ragchew and propagation surveillance.

In addition to chasing DX on 27 MHz or recognised ham bands, 3DA109 Cezar lists antenna construction as a preferred pastime.

When the bands are closed, Cezar can be found in the garden tending to his orchids, a diverse and widespread group of exotic flowering plants, colourful and fragrant.

He’s also passionate about old Volkswagen cars such as Zwitter Beetles, Rabbits and Golfs.

In his day to day life, employment as an accounting auditor pays the bills, including those of any new radio purchase hihi!

“I’ve been working with company balance sheet auditing since 1989,” he reveals.  “Reviewing and verifying the accuracy of business records, ensuring compliance with tax laws and much more…”

On the eleven meter band, the international call frequency, 27.555 MHz USB, is where you’ll find 3DA109 Cezar—calling for DX or listening for a remote corner of the globe.

He’s very happy to exchange QSL cards to confirm any contact and can be reached on the details below.
