3B8CF Jackie’s rent-a-QTH in the southwest Indian Ocean is regarded by those whom have used the facility in the past few years as a wonderful experience indeed and perfect to test the ‘pile-up skills’ on any band.
Jackie’s holiday shack (See below) is found on the small island nation of Mauritius (AF-049), a rare volcanic DXCC off the southeast coast of the African continent, about 900 kilometers east of Madagascar (AF-013).
This accommodation (See above) is a 2 story abode with an upstairs apartment that can support 2 couples, or 2 single DX adventurers. This makes it ideal as a serious contesters location or even just a perfect place for a couple of ‘ham’ families to stay.
Families can combine radio communications with some of the other amazing features of the local area. These include some of the most pristine white sandy beaches in the world!

Station:
Antennas: Cushcraft A4S, WARC beam for 12/17, rotary dipole for 40/30, and wire dipole for 80m. You must bring your own rig (power limit is 100w), but power supply is available in the shack. Unfortunately, the 15m 3rd harmonic falls right on TV channel 4, and causes interference (presumably with neighbours) – thus 15m is generally not usable.
Getting There:
As the National airline of Mauritius, Air Mauritius is based at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Port Louis. With frequent flights to the European hubs of Paris and London, Air Mauritius connects this tiny island to the rest of the world.
