*MEET* 35DA035 Frank

Dramatic Pyrotechnician. Fearless outdoors adventurist. Radio Communications Buff.

From the heart of the rugged Eastern Alps in Central Europe, the Dx Adventure Radio Club is proud to introduce 35DA035 Frank (See pictured above), a highly accomplished Freeband DX operator with a decades-long legacy of excellence and dedication on the 11-meter band.

For most members of the 11m DX Community, this guy needs no introduction!

A seasoned DXer with nearly 30 years of on-air experience, 35DA035 Frank joined the DA-RC in January 2025—perfectly timed to ride the wave of heightened propagation at the peak of Solar Cycle 25.

Driven by a passion for radio and a deep respect for the hobby’s traditions, this well-known Austrian is well-positioned to capitalize on improving band conditions, from one of the most beautiful countries on the planet.

With his new Delta-Alfa callsign, he’s eager to chase rare DX contacts from across the globe, adding even more highlights to an already impressive logbook.

35DA035 Frank arrives at DA-RC with an impressive 247 DXCC entities confirmed on 11 meters—earned through past affiliations with well-known radio clubs including Alfa Tango, Sugar Delta, and World Radio.

His credentials speak for themselves and place him firmly in the DX Hunter Category of DA-RC membership (see ‘How to Join’).

35DA035 Frank operates from Schwanenstadt, a panoramic town in the district of Vöcklabruck, in Upper Austria—roughly 400 meters ASL.

It’s an ideal QTH for DX work, situated near Division 13 (Germany) and surrounded by notable neighbors including Slovakia (330), Czech Republic (329), Hungary (109), Slovenia (327), Italy (1), and Switzerland (15).

Austria’s mountainous terrain provides natural elevation, and Frank often operates portable from nearby hills for an added propagation edge, even partaking in the annual 11m & PMR Field Day event (See below)

Peaks such as Großer Schoberstein, Hochleckenhaus, Almkogel and the Dragon Wall offer sensational portable DX vantage points and many of 35DA035 Frank’s DX conquests are achieved from these vantage points, more than half way to the clouds!

Austria’s dramatic landscapes—majestic snowcapped mountains, fragrant forests, and the historic Danube River—provide a picturesque backdrop to 35DA035 Frank’s home QTH.

His town, Schwanenstadt, is known for its historical significance as a former center of commerce and for its distinctive cultural and architectural heritage.

Among its treasures are the St. Michael’s Church, with its impressive Neo-Gothic tower and intricate altar; the Schwanenstadt Local Heritage Museum, showcasing regional crafts and farming tools; and the Pausinger Villa, an archaeological marvel built over ancient graves.

The town also boasts culinary gems like the Destillerie Parzmair, famed for its organic liquors and syrups, and the Voralpenland Glashütte, a hub for spectacular glass art.
