Fanatical Dxpeditioner. Passionate Freeband DX Hunter. Licensed ham radio operator…
Inhabiting the island of Great Britain, in the northern part of Europe, our Dx Adventure Radio Club is proud to introduce to you 26DA283 Jason; a popular guy who hails from Gloucestershire, a ceremonial county in South West England.
In recent years, 26DA283 Jason has forged a rep as one of the best DXpeditioners in the international 11m DX Community.
In fact, this compulsive dx adventurist travels frequently to south-east Asia, Africa, the Middle East and across Europe for the purpose of dx work.
His most recent visit, in mid-2023, was to the Republic of Kenya—a country in East Africa famed for its scenic landscapes and vast wildlife preserves—where he has a permanent DX station.
In addition to meeting DA-RC membership requirements in the Dxpeditioner Category, 26DA283 Jason also satisfies conditions in the DX Hunter category with more than 200 DXCC entities worked and confirmed.
These have been accomplished over the course of some 20 years participation in radio comms with the Alfa Tango and Sugar Delta clubs respectively.
“I’ve been on and off radio for 30 years,” explains Jason, “Dxing on eleven meters for a good 20 years now…”
26DA283 Jason’s county—Gloucestershire—boasts some of the most beautiful countryside in England.
For example, the majority of the Cotswolds region—famous for its honey-stone towns and villages set within glorious rolling hills—is said to lie within its boundaries.
As does the ancient Forest of Dean and the stunning Wye Valley.
In Gloucestershire, 26DA283 Jason resides on the west bank of the River Severn, in the picturesque town of Lydney.
Historically, it’s thought that Lydney Park was a significant Roman settlement with a temple, bath house and guest house dating back to the 4th century, known as Dwarf’s Hill.
In later years, however, Jason’s town became important for producing and transporting coal, stone, tinplate and timber, with Lydney Harbour being a small but thriving port.
According to 26DA283 Jason, St Mary’s Church and the Lydney Town Hall are other popular attractions worthy of a mention.
26DA283 Jason’s station is fitting of a world class DX Hunter, intent on maximizing any and all opportunities that 11m band propagation might present.
His setup consists of a Yaesu FTDX-3000 Amateur HF/VHF transceiver which is regarded as one of the best rigs on the market.
In addition to a handy 3.5 inch wide color LCD display, this high-performance XTR provides ultimate weak signal receiver performance in crowded, strong signal environments.
Outside his home, on a freestanding 12m MM0CUG aluminium mast, is a 3 element delta loop antenna which boasts exceptional low noise characteristics and high gain, capable of firing a punchy signal to any corner of the globe.
A semi-retired painter and decorator by trade, Jason now lists music and performance cars—with superior engine power, speed and agility—as his favourite hobbies.
He also loves soccer and darts!
When he’s not abroad and operating as a rare DXCC or IOTA station, and instead working from the confines of his home shack, 26DA283 Jason is QRV on 27.555 MHz USB.
His QSL card is available direct from the coordinations below…
