*MEET* 218DA012 Hernan

“A treasured Central American icon in the global radio comms community, this classy DX operative combines strategic excellence, disciplined technique, and an unmatched ability to secure coveted Freeband contacts.

This makes him a standout hobbyist, regardless of the era!

Husband, father, granddad – what else can this guy deliver?

Our Dx Adventure Radio Club is proud to welcome 218DA012 Hernan on the northeast coast of Central America, a world-class 11m and ham band DX hunter and practiced dxpeditioner whose rep on the bands precedes him, before his mic even keys up.

Known for his sharp instincts, disciplined operating style, and relentless consistency, Hernan is the kind of OM who quietly but decisively changes the outcome of a DXpedition pile-up…for the better!

A Menace to ‘Most Wanted’ — in the Best Possible Way

Among DX circles, 218DA012 Hernan is particularly well regarded for his effectiveness against Pacific-focused DXpeditions…

He’s repeatedly nailed down some of the world’s most-wanted stations, many of which have been delivered by his fellow DA brothers.

As an elite DX mercenary, Hernan’s results speak for themselves…

This guy has bagged more than 200 DXCC entities on the 11-metre band — an achievement built on skill, patience, and timing rather than brute-force calling.

Evidence suggests his approach is never frantic or reckless; instead, it’s marked by composure, control, and an ability to read conditions with near-clinical precision.

Hunger to establish contact is always present — but it’s controlled, measured, and backed by DXperience that only 4 decades can mould.

Intelligence, Strategy, and Respect

218DA012 Hernan is widely known as an intelligent DX strategist…

He’s respected not only for his results but also for how he achieves them.

He listens far more than he transmits and understands when not to call — a trait that clearly separates elite DX hunters from the rest.

This disciplined mindset has earned him broad respect and popularity across the international DX community.

Stationed in Belize, Connected Worldwide

Based in Belize, 218DA012 Hernan resides in Orange Walk, the fourth-largest town in the country, with a population of approximately 13,400…

Orange Walk is the capital of the Orange Walk District and is located on the left bank of the New River, about 53 miles north of Belize City and 30 miles south of Corozal Town.

It’s a QTH that serves him exceptionally well for Caribbean and Central American DX, while also offering strong launch angles into the Pacific during favourable conditions.

From this advantageous geographic position, 218DA012 Hernan exploits conditions expertly, particularly on 11 metres…

He’s highly active on the radio, with most of his operating taking place on weekends, and is a regular and vigilant monitor of the International Call Frequency, 27.555 MHz USB, where his callsign is a familiar and welcome sound.

Whether conditions are marginal or wide open, Hernan is always alert to opportunity.

His shack reflects a strong Kenwood, Yaesu, and MFJ feel, providing reliable and high-performance equipment for serious DXing.

A Passion for QSLs and Radio History

Beyond the chase, Hernan is a dedicated QSL card collector, valuing the history and personal stories behind each confirmed contact…

True to the spirit of amateur and freeband radio, he eagerly accepts QSL requests, recognizing the importance of confirmation to fellow DXers and contributing to the shared culture that binds the hobby together.

Interests Beyond the Shack

Away from the radio, 218DA012 Hernan has a strong passion for numismatics…

This is the scholarly study and collecting of currency, including coins, tokens, paper money, and medals.

Rooted in historical research and long-term value, it mirrors the patience, attention to detail, and strategic thinking that define his DXing.

He also maintains an interest in cycling, a pursuit that complements his disciplined mindset and provides balance beyond time spent at the operating pozzy…

In addition to being a proud dog owner, enjoying the companionship and balance his pet brings to life off the air, 218DA012 Hernan is also an ‘Ice Cream Master”; a guy who’s highly skilled and experienced in making, crafting, and presenting ice cream; a mastery over Flavors, Techniques, Ingredients, Presentation & Innovation.

Natural Leadership, Quiet Authority

218DA012 Hernan brings clear leadership traits to DA-RC — not through volume or ego, but through example…

His calm authority, consistency, and respect for operating standards make him a natural influence within any team environment, particularly during high-pressure DX scenarios.

A Perfect Fit for the Adventure

Through his results, operating discipline, and standing within the DX community, Hernan satisfies DA-RC membership requirements via the DX Chaser category…

With his strategic mind and deep respect for the traditions of DXing, this DX crazed Belizean is an outstanding addition to the Dx Adventure Radio Club.

We’re delighted to welcome him into the DA-RC family and look forward to many shared adventures — on the bands and beyond.

Welcome aboard, Hernan!
