CQ, CQ DX, CQ ZELLO APP!”
With the onset of Solar Cycle 25 resembling a spluttering F1 motor, Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) members have been craving for a reliable ‘phone’ medium to maintain contact with friends in the club.
Essentially, an absence of propagation at any time can sometimes give the impression that a DX club is not particularly active so the launch of this new feature and the activity it’s enjoyed in the DA-RC ranks has well and truly eliminated that theory.
Tech guru and long-time DA-RCie 43DA102 Geoff in Queensland Australia recently created a private Zello channel for DA-RC members with many ops in NA, OC and EU already QRV on a daily basis.
WHAT’S ZELLO?
Zello is a FREE application startup founded in Austin, Texas, which emulates push-to-talk (PTT) walkie-talkies over cell phone networks.
This awesome app is reportedly available for Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Windows PC, rugged mobile devices and two-way radios.
Zello simulates a traditional CB transceiver, yet offers other exciting features such as history, replay last message, notifications and Bluetooth device support.
It also works over 2G, 4G, 3G and GPRS/EDGE networks.
This fantastic direct messaging service allows DA-RC members to communicate freely — either privately with other individuals or over open channels such as ours — with dialogue resembling a traditional QSO on 11m or ham frequencies.

More info, such as the password for our club’s private Channel, simply titled ‘Dx Adventure Radio Club’, can be found on our confidential Facebook Group. You can also email a member of the DA-RC HQ team to find out more!
