In the month of April, 2023, 2DA012 Tim will be QRV from Kent Island in Chesapeake Bay in the state of Maryland in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
This picturesque 2 Division island is listed in the US Islands Award Program for Ham operations as MD-004S and this unique reference will form the suffix of Tim’s special 11m DX callsign.
A pocket-sized island surrounded by stunning seascapes, including boat harbors, lighthouses and other bay isles, this stunning QTH is also listed in the 11m dedicated database on Islands Base Online.
Located off the west coast of Queen Anne’s County, Kent Island sits at the base of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, connecting Maryland’s eastern and western shores.
The island is just barely separated from the mainland by a narrow channel known as Kent Narrows.
Kent Island has deep roots in Maryland history.
Pictured above, Kent Fort, founded in 1631, is the third oldest English settlement in the country, after Jamestown and Plymouth.
Before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge opened in 1952, the area served as a hub for steamboat travel, and ferry service travelled between Kent Island’s Love Point and the Western Shore.
