*IOTA NEWS* 43DA/OC-142, Fraser, Active Soon

Attention serious IOTA Hunters!

In September 2020, experienced DXpeditioner 43DA007 Mike will be QRV from Australia’s largest sand island — Fraser Island — 250km north of Brisbane.

The special callsign, allocated by DA-RC HQ, will be 43DA/OC-142 with the suffix OC-142 the IOTA reference for this particular island.

Known as K’gari (meaning paradise) by the traditional owners — the Butchulla people — Fraser is one of 32 pristine island dxstinations in the Queensland State (South Coast) Centre group, scattered off Australia’s east coast.

In keeping with the IOTA World program, inherited by the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), this picturesque island shares the IOTA reference OC-142 with other dxquisite islands such as Curtis, Divided, Facing, Girt, Hummocky, Lady Elliot, Peak, Pelican, Quoin, Rundle, Wedge, Woody and others.

43DA007 Mike confirms that he’ll travel to the island by boat, a trip that will take roughly 40 minutes.

He’ll be operating as a portable station from the eastern shores of the island, with perfect takeoffs to the Pacific area and USA, assuring the best possible opportunities to work IOTA Hunters at this difficult time of the cycle.

There’s also a fantastic opportunity to work other 43 Division DX Hunters in QLD, NSW and Victoria via favourable sporadic e-conditions that have been prevalent in recent months.

Separated from the Australian mainland by the Great Sandy Strait, this magnificent QTH is famous for its ancient sand dunes, long stretches of beautiful beaches, crystal clear freshwater lakes and creeks, lush rainforests and abundance of native flora and fauna.
