*PRODUCT WATCH* NBS Antennas & Masts

If you’re looking for a super versatile mast for portable DX/field ops in the Oceania region then be sure to check out the product range from NBS Antennas and Masts.

[Please note that non-OC based comms enthusiasts might also find this article useful for comparisons with OS based companies].

This is a company based in the Australian state of Victoria which, I’m told, deals with international customers as well, and I was fortunate enough to experience one of their awesome masts on a recent radio comms weekend away in Queensland.

NBS masts come in different sizes and styles to suit a whole range of DX applications.

They include 5.5m, 7.2m, 8.5m, 11m and 13.8m; tiltovers, boxed and jack up masts, telescopic masts and more.

I’m also told by the actual owner of the mast that NBS masts can be custom built to your requirements.

This can be especially handy if recon missions to a portable QTH reveal that a specific height is necessary!

The Mast

The 9m high NBS mast consisted of 5 stages and was constructed from 6005A grade T5 2mm wall tube with 40mm, 45mm, 50mm, 55mm, and 60mm diameters.

This appeared to be extremely solid and reliable.

With no less than 3 antennas perched from its top, it included welded-in-place guy rings and locking pins to secure the mast section in place and hold the coaxial feeder to the antenna next to the mast which were very convenient.

These pins had a fast action thumb release and could be released by hand.

This mast had a natural anodized finish for added protection, making it ideal for WX protection in the hot and humid Queensland climate.
