Nestled among 3 huge volcanic pukas, the Leilani Bed & Breakfast is a historic volcanic rock home built by one of the first settlers in Ocean View, Hawaii, located just a few minutes from Manuka State Park, and the new Kahuku section of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.
With a classic ham radio shack on site, fully decked out with satellite tv and all the mod cons you could ever ask for, many claim that it is the top DX operators’ rental QTH to stay at on the Big Island of Hawaii.
With Big Island DX conditions and propagation, travelling DXers can swell their log sheets with new contacts from the Pacific Rim including Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Japan, China, and other exotic islands and from Europe as well!
Because of the reputation of this attractive, far-flung area and the fact that it’s sparsely populated, any radio activity from the Hawaiian Islands always guarantees a pile-up — especially if the band is open to the Americas or Europe where many operators still hunt this tiny OC DXCC.
By all reports, the property has lots of room, and tall trees and tower to put up any personal antennas that you prefer. They also have a Drake MN2700 long wire matching network and wireless internet is also available on site.
The team at Leilani Bed and Breakfast are also happy to help you plan your sightseeing excursions as well.
Their tropical garden location with resident macadamia trees, nearby a stunning lava rock waterfall, is convenient to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park where visitors often enjoy hiking and bird watching.
The amazing views, too, are perfect for whale watching and the ideal spot to enjoy one of the B&B’s delicious breakfasts!
One of the owner/managers, Randy, is also an avid deep-sea fisherman, so you can get all the sport and marlin fishing advice you need—and a few fish stories, too!
