The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) supports the philosophy of ‘Ham Spirit’ (not to be confused with the ‘DX Code of Conduct’) which refers to a code of honour in radio communications established in 1928.
The DA-RC recognises these formulated statements by Paul M. Segal (W9EEA) (See right) as the oldest formulation of the ham spirit concept and an appropriate code to honour in conjunction with our own club’s Core Values.
According to ‘Ham Spirit’, the Radio Amateur is:
- Attentive… to the spirit of international openness, enthusiasm for technology, tolerance, humanity and unselfish willingness to help.
- Considerate… never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.
- Loyal… offers loyalty, encouragement and support to other amateurs, local clubs, and his or her national radio amateur association.
- Progressive… with knowledge abreast of science, a well-built and efficient station and operation above reproach.
- Friendly… slow and patient operating when requested; friendly advice and counsel to the beginner; kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interest of others. These are the hallmarks of the amateur spirit.
- Balanced… radio is an avocation, never interfering with duties owed to family, job, school, or community.
- Patriotic… station and skill always ready for service to country and community.
- Inclusive… regardless of social differences such as skin colour, language, religion or political affiliation of the caller.
The DA-RC is proud of the ham spirit showed by all of its members in their respective radio communities and will continue to work towards promoting enjoyment in the hobby for all.
