*SOON ACTIVE* Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Standby DX Hunters!

The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is excited to reveal that incredibly rare ‘Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ (253 Division) will soon be on the air by way of 253DA/0.

According to cluster archives and respected data bases, such as Islands Base Online (IBO), this little-known entity was last activated in 1999 when 253IR/0 was QRV from South Andaman Island.

With shimmering turquoise waters fringed by primeval jungle, fantastic diving, and sugar-white, sun-toasted beaches melting under flame-and-purple sunsets, far-flung Andaman and Nicobar is one of the most magnificent IOTA DXstinations on the planet.

Situated between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east, this ‘Most Wanted DXCC is a union territory of India comprising 836 islands, occupying an area of 8,249 km2.

Only 31 of these are said to be inhabited.

Andaman and Nicobar shares maritime borders with Indonesia (91 Division) located about 165 km to the south, Myanmar (237 Division) located 280 km to the north-east and Thailand (153 Division) located 650 km to the south-east.

According to the World Atlas, the territory’s islands are grouped into the north Andaman islands and south Nicobar islands.

These are separated by the 150 km wide Ten Degree Channel.
