13DA012 Joe’s exciting IOTA dx adventure to the Thessalia Region IOTA group will extend from Friday, 26 August, 2022 until Thursday, 8 September, 2022.

The portable DX station will consist of a Kenwood TS-480 SAT transceiver with 200 watts output, while his antennas will include a Wilson 5000, Dipole and Bazooka vertical.

An Albrecht AE2990AFS SSB handheld transceiver will also accompany him to the islands.

13DA012 Joe’s first dxstination on his Greek IOTA Tour, Skopelos, is one of several islands which comprise the Northern Sporades island group.

This island dxstination lies east of the Pelion peninsula on the mainland and north of the island of Euboea, the second-largest Greek island after Crete (EU-015).

Last activated in the year 2000 according to the Islands Base Online database, Skopelos is also the name of the main port and the municipal center of the island.

The second island on 13DA012 Joe’s DX itinerary is Alonnisos, which is located 3 km east of Skopelos.

This island has not been activated for more than 22 years.

Locally known as Chora and signposted as The Old Village, the village of Alonnisos is located on the southern part of the island, while the main port of the island is in the southeast and is called Patitiri.

There are ferry, catamaran and hydrofoil services from Patitiri to Volos, Agios Konstantinos, and Thessaloniki on the mainland and to the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros.

Not heard on the air since 2007, Skiathos is the westernmost island in the Northern Sporades group.

It is east of the Pelion peninsula in Magnesia on the mainland, and west of the island of Skopelos.
