*MEET* 91DA191 Bruno

In the Republic of Indonesia resides professional 11m DX enthusiast and licensed ham radio operator 91DA191 Bruno who joins with the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) in November 2020.

Pictured right, 91DA191 Bruno is a highly successful DX Hunter with a massive 315 DXCC worked on the 11m band over a period of almost 30 years involvement in the hobby.

Additionally, 91DA191 Bruno is also an experienced DXpeditioner, having activated islands in the Tenggara Barat Islands IOTA Group on both ham and 11m frequencies.

Of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands, 91DA191 Bruno’s home QTH is Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara province.

According to the atlas, Lombok forms part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with the Lombok Strait separating it from Bali Island (OC-022) to the west and the Alas Strait between it, and Sumbawa Island to the east.

Lombok Island is surrounded by a number of smaller islands locally called ‘Gili’.

These picturesque IOTA dxstinations also fall under the guise of the Tenggara Barat Islands IOTA Group and Bruno looks forward to being QRV from these OC-150 referenced islands in the future.

Lombok’s topography is dominated by the centrally-located stratovolcano Mount Rinjani, the second-highest volcano in Indonesia, which rises to 3726 metres, making Lombok the 8th-highest island.

According to 91DA191 Bruno, it is a future Summits On the Air (SOTA) opportunity.

91DA191 Bruno’s city is Senggigi which enjoys a fine location along a series of sweeping bays, with light-sand beaches below a backdrop of jungle-clad mountains and coconut palms.

Regarded as a perfect place to relax, Senggigi boasts a series of white sandy beaches.

The point at central Senggigi has good waves for surfers.

This place has a colourful reef which provides shelter to a variety of marine life and exquisitely shaped coral and makes it a perfect place to snorkel.

In addition to its beautiful beaches, other tourist attractions here include the Pura Batu Bolong — a fascinating Hindu temple with 14 altars on a rock on the beach which is visited by many worshippers.

In the south of Senggigi, also, is the grave of Batu Layar (Makam Batu Layar), a Muslim saint.

91DA191 Bruno’s station consists of Yaesu FT-80C and Kenwood TS-2000 transceivers and a 3 element yagi which towers above his home on the Indo-archipelago.

This impressive DX station ensures 91DA191 Bruno will be one of the biggest TX signals heard on the 11m International call frequency, coming out of the Bali Sea area.
