Standby profound DX and Islands On The Air (IOTA) Hunters for the possibility of working one of the most remote islands of the Canarias Archipelago and nabbing an elusive regional reference….
Our Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is excited to reveal that experienced dx adventurer 34DA183 Juan-Carlos will be QRV from the secluded, volcanic, and sharply mountainous island of El Hierro, in mid June, 2024
This island is one of a collection of entities in the AF-004 group, in accordance with the World IOTA Program.

The dxpedition callsign for this very special activity, however, will be 34DA/S-015 with the S-015 suffix indicative of the island’s presence in the Spanish Islands DX award.
Nicknamed ‘Isla del Meridiano’, El Hierro is a remote African DXstination, known to be the second-smallest and farthest south and west of the Canarias chain of islands.
Based on 11m databases, this gem-rare QTH is also one of the most elusive of entities in the IOTA community; tough to nab; and increasingly difficult to confirm with a QSL card.
As well as being an extremely rare IOTA prospect for crazy Island Hunters, El Hierro is famous for its unspoilt beaches and tiny coves.
These remain tucked away beneath steep cliff faces within earshot of lighthouses such as the Punta Orchilla (Shown above), volcanic lava fields, desert spaces, forests of Canary Island pines, green meadows, vineyards and pineapple plantations.
The DA-RC HQ Team understands that 34DA183 Juan-Carlos will arrive on the island via a small airport—El Hierro Airport—at Valverde, the island’s official capital.
From here, he’ll travel to his accommodation and then journey to a prime location with his portable station for the 34DA/S-015 activity!
Please check out the full details of this exciting IOTA adventure, such as QSL Manager coordinates, grid square location, exact dates, links, and more, in the right hand side menu, under ‘DXpedition List’.
