30DA205 Manolo resides in Novelda, a fascinating town located in the province of Alicante which has a population of almost 30,000 inhabitants.
Reportedly, Novelda stands out for its modernist architecture and wine tourism.
It’s also said to be the Spanish capital of the marble industry; a town with important quarries and mines of clay, limestone, silica, gypsum and, of course, marble.
Places of interest in Novelda include the monastery of Santa María Magdalena (dated from the 19th century), which has a church designed by a disciple of Antoni Gaudí, the Moorish castle of the Mola, with its unique triangular tower, and the Museum of Modernism.
This is a well preserved art nouveau house with original artifacts from the 1920s.
There are also several natural and salty lakes.
As you’d expect of any guy with a mega on-air presence across all bands, 30DA205 Manolo has assembled a world class station with supreme access to multi-band DX.
As pictured right and below, a Yaesu FT-950 base radio with matching MD-100 microphone, as well as flashy IC-725 and IC-7610 transceivers by Icom are just a sample of high quality DX weaponry which features on his radio shack bench top.
In the space around his home, an antenna farm featuring several Cushcraft models, highlighted by a 7 element multi band monster, delivers TX signals to all corners of the globe.
These are boosted by an ACOM 1000 (HF + 6m) linear amplifier which covers all amateur bands from 1.8 through 54 MHz and provides over 1000 W output power.
When patrolling the Freeband portion of the citizens band, 30DA205 Manolo is QRV on Triple 5.
He enjoys a ragchew with mates when propagation permits and is always on high alert for rare DX.
