*MEET* 30DA027 Jose Maria

From the Kingdom of Spain and one of the biggest and best DX hot spots in the world, the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is proud to introduce to you master ham and Freeband DX Hunter 30DA027 Jose Maria.

From his picturesque home QTH in southwestern Europe, 30DA027 Jose has been caught up in the radio comms hobby for 36 years.

Before signing with the DA-RC in early December 2023, he was previously known in the 11m Community with Delta Xray (DX) and Alfa Tango (AT) callsigns respectively.

Seen pictured right in a New Zealand All Blacks jersey, Jose Maria is thrilled, however, to be aligning with the DA-RC as we enter into solar cycle 25 and a have a new Delta-Alfa callsign.

Since 1986, 30DA027 Jose Maria has compiled a healthy number of DXCC, achieving the magical 300 milestone in fact, to easily satisfy DA-RC Membership criteria in the DX Hunter category.

Evidence also exposes 30DA027 Jose Maria as practiced in the field of dxpedition work for which our club, The DA-RC, is most famous.

History reveals he has undertaken several Islands On The Air (IOTA) activities, hammering down references EU-093 & EU-053 in accordance with the World IOTA Program.

He’s also been QRV from several Inland Water Islands (IWI), as well as many small offshore islands in the DIE program.

Wrapping up an impressive dx adventure resume is news that 30DA027 Jose Maria has achieved success in Lighthouse On The Air (LOTA) work, operating from the grounds of or within 1000m of several Spanish and Portuguese lights.

According to the World Atlas, 30DA027 Jose Maria’s country shares borders with France (14 Division) and Portugal (31 Division).

It has the Mediterranean Sea on its east coast and the Atlantic Ocean on its north, west and south coast which provide it with an abundance of incredible coastal scenes.

Besides being world famous for its football, Spain is also known because of its culinary art, bullfights, architecture, beaches, seaside resorts, fiestas, foods such as paella, pan con tomate, chorizo and churros.

From dramatic, imposing mountains to countless glistening beaches that dot its coastlines, 30DA027 Jose Maria’s DXCC is indeed a country full of natural beauty and inspiring landscapes.

Just a stone’s throw from the shores of the Balearic Sea and islands of EU-004, 30DA027 Jose Maria resides in the city of Valencia.

Founded on the banks of the Turia River, this charming and somewhat atmospheric QTH is located on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula at the Gulf of Valencia, north of the Albufera lagoon.

A look inside his home shack and 30DA027 Jose Maria employs TS-850 and TS-440 transceivers by Kenwood with MC-50 microphones.

An IC-706 by Icom completes the trio of rigs and allows him to monitor several bands at any one time.

Atop a 9m tower, the world class station is iced with two yagis—the first a monster Cushcraft X9 tri-bander for ham DX and the second a 4 element mono-band design for 11m work.

Ash shown above, 30DA027 Jose Maria’s fascination for outdoor adventure extends to his recreation pursuits also with mountain bike riding rated high on his preferred list of life distractions.

Travel is another favoured pastime whilst on holidays from his job as a civil servant, plus all the trimmings that come with it such as spending time with family, eating at nice restaurants, etc.

Like most DA-RC Members, 30DA027 Jose Marie is QRV often on the world call frequency, 27.555 MHz USB.

Providing he can beat his son to the microphone, our popular Valencian guy is fast to pounce on rare DX and always eager to confirm his QSOs with long distance stations.
