Exceptional North American DX Hunter and long-time leading member of the global 11m DX Community, 2DA010 Jeff links with our Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) in November 2020.
Satisfying stringent DA-RC Membership requirements in the Dx Hunter Category, 2DA010 Jeff from the United States of America (USA) has confirmed an impressive 225 Divisions over a period of 36 years in the hobby.
History reveals that 2DA010 Jeff was with the Alfa Tango club for 10 years in which he was ex-2AT645.
He was also known on the airwaves as a member of the old Echo Tango (ET) club (2ET045).
These days, however, Jeff is excited to be part of a professional club with high calibre members and an ambitious approach to dxpedition work in Cycle 25!
2DA010 Jeff resides in Southeastern Michigan, a region in the Lower Peninsula of the US state of Michigan, bordered in the northeast by Lake St. Clair, to the south-east Lake Erie, and the Detroit River which connects these two lakes.
As well as being home to some of his state’s most appealing waterways, Southeastern Michigan is home to a majority of the state’s businesses and industries, as well as slightly over half of the state’s population, most of whom are concentrated in Metro Detroit.
2DA010 Jeff’s home QTH, however, is the city of Mount Clemens and it’s regarded as a very pretty place.
The county seat of Macomb County, Mount Clemens is positioned on the banks of the Clinton River (See below) which named in honor of DeWitt Clinton, the New York Governor from 1817 to 1823.
2DA010 Jeff’s city is almost completely surrounded by the Clinton Township — except for the far east side which borders Harrison Township.
According to 2DA010 Jeff, Mount Clemens has a wide variety of architectural styles in its residential areas and features many historic homes — the most popular of which are craftsman homes, Tudors, and bungalows.
Pictured right, the Crocker House Museum Mount Clemens is an example of Italianate architecture.
In fact, a visit will take you back in time to when the Crocker family lived in the home and also offer a glimpse into Mount Clemens’ famous Mineral Bath era.
Many art pieces are also on display by local artist Franklin Harold Hayward.
Also, the first United Methodist Church is designated as a Michigan Historic Landmark.
Another attraction is the Anton Art Center (Pictured left) which offers exhibitions of artwork by local, national and international artists.
In recent years “The Clem”, as it’s familiarly nicknamed, has become a center of nightlife for Macomb County.
One of its most famous bars is the Emerald Theatre.
2DA010 Jeff’s DXCC compilation confirms a station of high calibre with an unmistakable Yaesu theme.
Weapons of choice DX armoury include a Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V Field (Pictured right), a Yaesu FT-767GX, a Yaesu FT-840, a Cobra 148GTL, a Ranger RCI-2950 DX and an old Heathkit SB-1400.
Outside his residence, are a series of antennas that pack a real punch!
They include a 3 element M103 Maco base station antenna that can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, a homemade 2 element yagi and a soon to be erected 4 element yagi!
Away from the time consuming hobby of radio comms, 2DA010 Jeff loves sports cars and astronomy (i.e. the study of comets, clouds, moons, constellations, planets, etc.).
He enjoys listening to music too and prefers the heavy rock genre above all else.
Rock bands such as Van Halen (Pictured left), Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, Black Sabbath, Metallica, etc.
Judging by the photos supplied to DA-RC HQ, however, it’s his adorable pet dogs that command most of his attention.
A loveable mix of pug and chihuahua, “Onix” and “Coal” (Pictured right & above) are brother and sister and appear to be a very special part indeed of Jeff and his wife’s family.
As you can see, there’s always plenty of topics worthy of a ragchew with the DA-RC’s Michigan based DXman.
Like most DA-RC members, you can catch 2DA010 Jeff on the International Call Frequency 27.555 MHz USB or, alternatively, on the popular USA Chat channel 38 LSB.
