*MEET* 26DA148 Chris

2000px-Flag-map_of_the_Kingdom_of_England.svgDevoted freeband DX Hunter, licensed Ham and midweek ‘Netter’ — avid radio comms hobbyist 26DA148 Chris is a resident in the market town of Chesterfield, a borough in Derbyshire, England.

800px-Chesterfield_UK_locator_map.svgPreviously recognised on 27 MHz frequencies as a Lima Radio club member with the callsign 26LR148 and possessing a rep as a professional and courteous op, Chris links with the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) in December 2017, eager to sample the empire of dx adventure in which our club is renowned.

Like a number of his fellow DA-RC members, 26DA148 Chris has a background in the armed forces.

2912_75960596870_2146973_nIn fact, he’s a former Corporal and radio communications instructor with the Derbyshire Army Cadet force.

In addition to work with military comms and teaching the younger generation of 12-16 year olds how to work a miltary TX, Chris is a licensed ham radio operator and keen 11m DXer.

128px-ACF_LogoHe takes pleasure in ragchewing with radio mates, particularly in the Mid Week net administered by members of the DA-RC in the UK and chasing that elusive DXCC or IOTA reference.

On most occasions, 26DA148 Chris is active across the bands as a portable station from preferred locations in the East Midlands region of 26 Division.

chrisbent2At the time of writing, an ICOM IC-7100 all-mode HF/VHF/UHF mobile transceiver is his apparatus of choice.

On the roof of his car is a 6.6 foot 10/11m Sirio 5000 ‘stick’ which is tunable from 27 to 30 MHz.

He also uses an ICOM AH-2B HF mobile whip antenna and the Icom AH-4 automatic antenna tuner to bring things into line.

Pictured above, this is popularly known for its “crooked spire”.

0037-4252944The Chesterfield Market, Chesterfield Museum and the local Theatre are also popular haunts while Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall, Renishaw Hall Gardens and the Peak District are a few other things to see.

15082425161mediaitem98348034A potential Castles On The Air (COTA) opportunity is Bolsover Castle.

This structure was built in the early 17th century by the Cavendish family, on the site of a medieval castle founded in the 12th century by the Peverel family.

In his spare time, 26DA148 Chris identifies rock climbing, watching movies and cooking as hobbies of choice.

1200px-DownloadFestival2007It’s rock music though which is always near the forefront of his mind.

In addition to mixing his own songs, Chris has been to a number of concerts in recent times (e.g. Ellie Goulding and Lindsey Sterling).

He also has his sights set on the 2018 Download Festival headlined by rock greats Guns n’ Roses, Avenged Sevenfold & Ozzy Osbourne.

This is a famous British rock festival held annually at Donington Park in Leicestershire, since 2003.

26DA148 Chris is also a member of the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation network in which he acts as a Virtual Air Traffic Controller.

1927807_49482976870_5182_nBy all reports, this completely free network allows aviation enthusiasts the ultimate as-real-as-it-gets experience.

As you can see 26DA148 Chris is an adventurous spirit indeed.

On top of diverse interests in radio comms, he’s an active participant in life in general, constantly involved in new and challenging pursuits.

This gives him the perfect platform for membership in the DA-RC and for providing exciting dx experiences for others in the future.
