*MEET* 1DA020 Gianmarco

Dear 11m DX enthusiasts.

Lock in the QRZ ‘1DA020’ as one of which you’ll be hearing lots about in the year to come.

In the world’s most broad DX community—Italy—1DA020 Gianmarco (Previously known as 1FG091) is destined for DX-supremacy.

In fact, from his home on the northernmost arm of the Mediterranean Sea, Gianmarco’s passion for DX is up there with the best DX Hunters in south-western Europe!

Membership application details identify that 1DA020 Gianmarco resides in Cesena, a picturesque city and comune (municipality) in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

Interestingly, Gianmarco’s pretty home abode—Emilia-Romagna—is also one of the wealthiest and most developed regions in Europe.

The World Atlas has it 15 km from the Adriatic Sea, a body of water separating the Italian Peninsula from the Balkan Peninsula.

It’s also located near the Apennine Mountains, which extends 1,200 km along the length of peninsular Italy.

On the doorstep of 1DA020 Gianmarco’s home, in the Adriatic Sea, are more than 1300 potential islands dxstinations.

Most are located along the Croatian part of Italy’s eastern coast and many have never before been activated on the 11m band.

1DA020 Gianmarco’s home town—Cesena—has several interesting attractions…

Firstly, a potential Castles & Fortresses (CF) activation is the Malatestian Fortress (Rocca Malatestiana) which was completed in 1480.

Pictured right and below, the magnificent Malatestian Fortress was built by Cardinal Albornoz over a pre-existing edifice which had hosted, among others, Frederick Barbarossa and his grandson Frederick II.

Other intriguing landmarks are the Malatestiana Library which was the first public library in Europe; the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist; the Pinacoteca Comunale: housed in former Benedictine monastery; the art collection of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cesena: housed in the former Celestine monastery; the Teatro Alessandro Bonci; Palazzo Ghini; Church of Sant’Agostino; and Church and Convent dell’Osservanza.

Pictured above here with close friend, 1DA007 Darek, 1DA020 Gianmarco has amassed a world class Freeband station.

A modern Icom IC-7300 transceiver, alongside a zetagi B-1200 amplifier, delivers booming signals to all parts of the world through a monstrous 5 element yagi made in Italy.

For omnidirectional convenience, local traffic and propagation checking, 1DA020 Gianmarco employs a vertically polarized jpole antenna.

This antenna is also excellent also for mobile/portable use as it does not require necessarily high poles and can be mounted in roughly 3 minutes.

An electrician by trade and self-confessed lover of animals, 1DA020 Gianmarco enjoys motor bikes, travel, fine cuisine and spending time with his wife, family and friends – he also loves to hang from tall buildings lol!!!!

He has a unique courageous spirit and looks forward to an exciting future on Freeband frequencies with his new Delta-Alfa callsign, working rare DX, making many new friends and expanding his knowledge and experiences in the world of dx adventure

Like most DA-RC Members who’ve committed themselves to hunting DX, you’ll hear 1DA020 Gianmarco on the international call frequency, 27.555 MHz USB.

He’s very keen to exchange QSL cards to confirm any contact made with his Italian station!
