*MEET* 155DA092 Willis

14656326_1287575101260784_5753621914413281171_nIn the East China Sea, diminutive Taiwan Island (RSGB IOTA Ref: AS-020) is residence to Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) member 155DA092 Willis who links with the club in October 2017.

From his home TX location in the country’s northwest east, Willis is a keen DX Hunter on 27 MHz frequencies; one whom has snared a large portion of the world’s DXCC.

IOTA_DARC_logo_official_transparent155DA092 Willis has a strong interest in Islands On The Air (IOTA) and is a regular contributor on local IOTA forums also.

chnt-LMAP-mdHis home QTH, Taiwan, is located off the coast of southwest of Okinawa, Japan (25 Division) and north of the Philippines (79).

Besides its crowded cities, this DXCC is also known for steep mountains and lush forests.

Taiwan (155) is relatively rare on 11m with most operators appearing sparingly on the band only a couple of times of the year.

Shilin night marketOn the island, the DA-RC’s first ever 155 Division DXer’s home QTH is in Shilin, a northern district of Taipei.

This district is home to many museums, including the world famous National Palace Museum, Taipei Astronomical Museum and Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines.

Other landmarks include the Shilin Residence, the Zhishanyan Cultural and Ecological Garden, the Grand Hotel — built in the style of a Beijing palace, and the Martyr’s Shrine — a temple memorializing those who gave their lives for the R.O.C.

In addition, one of Taipei’s largest night markets is located in Shilin, as well as the ex-pat enclave of Tianmu.

When the mic’s not in hand, Willis enjoys photography, music, movies and travel.

He’s also a keen baseball fan and loves attending games involving his favourite team, the Carps.

Like many of his fellow DA-RC members, 155DA092 Willis is always busy with DIY (Do it Yourself) projects.

He’s constructed many antennas over the years for 27 MHz and other bands and always has a number of projects ‘on-the-go’.

imageHomemade dipoles are, purportedly, his specialty at this time!

At the time of writing, 155DA092 Willis’s choice of transceiver is an Anytone AT-5555 10/11 Meter CB Radio.

He looks forward to making many contacts with his new Delta-Alfa callsign and mixing with other members in the years to come.
