From the French Republic, in the North Atlantic Ocean, high-profile DX Hunter and popular guy — 14DA073 Thierry — is welcomed into the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC).
Thierry connects with our club in mid-December 2021, strengthening an already formidable group of 14 Division ops, renowned for their work in the field of dx adventure on 26-27 MHz frequencies.
14DA073 Thierry, too, satisfies DA-RC membership requirements in this classification, with an impressive number of Inland Water Islands (IWI) activity notches on his belt.
Multiple 11m DX cluster archives reveal Thierry has also undertaken many successful French Department regional DX activities.
A whopping 277 divisions worked and confirmed — including a collection of the world’s “Most Wanted” DXCC entities — showcase 14DA073 Thierry’s skills as a world class Freeband DX Hunter.
According to his membership application, these contacts were logged through previous associations with the Romeo Charlie and Tango Whiskey DX groups over a period of some 33 years in the radio communications hobby.
14DA073 Thierry’s home is found in Saint-Jeoire-Prieuré which has a population of roughly 1000 residents.
This is a commune in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of south-eastern France, characterized by agricultural areas, hardwood forests and vineyards, intertwined by a series of streams and rivulets.
The 14th century church of Saint-Georges du Prieuré is a famous landmark in Thierry’s home town.
The church was built during the last quarter of the 14th century into the 15th century, replacing the original Romanesque church from 1110 CE.
The church and its inventory were designated as monument historique in 1956, recognizing its importance to the architectural, historical, and cultural heritage of France.
Some interesting natural features, just a few minutes’ drive from 14DA073 Thierry’s QTH are Lac du Bourget (locally known as Lac Gris)
Pictured right, this beautiful lake is at the southernmost end of the Jura Mountains in the department of Savoie.
Another is Lac Aiguebelette which is nestled at the foot of the Chartreuse and the Epine mountain and is the smallest of the 4 lakes in Savoie Mont Blanc.
14DA073 Thierry’s home base DX artillery entails an Icom IC-7300 transceiver, with its High Performance Real-Time Spectrum Scope, and a Yaesu FT-450 with a matching MD-100 desk microphone, in line with a home-made 2 element Moxon antenna.
This is shown above, nestled within a carefully manicured garden outside his residence.
The versatile IC-7300 rig also follows him into the field for dx adventure, combining with a 3 element delta-loop, or an assortment of other lightweight high-performing antennas, and a telescopic mast for portable operations.
14DA073 Thierry is employed as a technical agent in incineration plant.
In his spare time, he likes to spend his hours in the mountains, skiing, QRV as a portable station, or riding his motorbike.
This is a famous Harley Davidson, seen pictured below.
Like the majority of DA-RC members, 14DA073 Thierry is QRV on the international call frequency, 27.555 MHz USB, where he’s quick to pounce on any incoming signals.
His QSL card is available via the coordinations below to confirm any contact made with his home base or portable station.
