In the Central French Western Alps, avid DX Hunter 14DA038 Laurent joins the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) in mid November 2017.

14DA038 Laurent enjoys ‘cooking up a storm’ in the kitchen when entertaining family and friends.

He also calls himself a keen ‘metal detectorist’ and enjoys getting out and about in the outdoors with a metal detector, exploring the ground for precious finds.

On this note, a Tesoro Silver Sabre and Garett AT Pro are the 2 main machines he uses for detecting metals and when a discovery is made — such as an old coin, piece of jewellery or ancient artefact — no doubt it’s almost as exhilarating as working a rare one.

It’s radio comms though which is his ultimate pastime!

In the Eleven Meter DX Community, 14DA038 Laurent is a much respected guy. 

He’s a regular on 27 MHz frequencies and in the logs of sought after dx stations in past times with his previous QRZ ‘14RI200’ with the Romeo India club.

The DA-RC’s new western Europe member has worked and confirmed a total of 150 DXCC on the 11m band.  He’s always on the lookout for a “New One” to add to that notable tally too.

Laurent, therefore, meets the requirements for DA-RC membership in the ‘DX Hunter Category’.

Laurent also qualifies for acceptance in the DA-RC via the ‘DX Club Leadership category’. 

He’s performed duties with distinction as a Coordinator for Romeo India and will no doubt challenge for a leadership role with the DA-RC in the years to come.

14DA038 Laurent’s home QTH is in the commune of Huez, which is part of the department of Isère, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Isère is surrounded by the departments of Rhône, Ain, Savoie, Hautes-Alpes, Drôme, Ardèche, and Loire.

As indicated by Laurent, Alpe d’Huez is one of Europe’s premier international skiing venues, having hosted a Winter Olympic Games in 1968.

It’s also famous for a number of other sports.

L’Alpe d’Huez is climbed regularly in the gruelling Tour de France cycling race and is regarded as one of the most demanding of all stages.

On top of that, competition mountain biking and triathlons are also popular through its rugged, yet picturesque terrain.

14DA038 Laurent has compiled an impressive station to achieve his ambitious DX pursuits…

It consists of top line ICOM, Kenwood and President Lincoln transceivers; Colorado, Antron 99 and IMAX 2000 verticals by Solarcon, a home-brew wire skypper and GR5RV dipole for work on other bands.

TX from one of the most spectacular locations in France, 14DA038 Laurent will no doubt be one of the most eagerly sought after of contacts in the years to come!
