The Dx Adventure Radio Club is proud to introduce to you 14DA017 Pat from the north-western European country of France who joins with our club in January 2022.
One of his 14 Division’s best-known Freeband operatives through previous involvement with the Sugar Delta (SD) and International Radio (IR) clubs respectively, 14DA017 Pat, seen pictured above, has an extensive 33 years’ experience in the hobby.
During this time in radio communications he’s carved out a reputation as being one of the most successful DX Hunters in the 11m DX Community.
With an impressive 280 DXCC or Divisions worked and confirmed on 26-27 MHz frequencies, backed by known 11m databases, it’s through the DX Chaser category in which 14DA017 Pat satisfies DA-RC Membership requirements.

In the French Republic, 14DA017 Pat resides in Migennes, a picturesque commune in the heart of the Yonne department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in north-central France.
The city is reportedly blooming from the first days of spring until the end of autumn with a communal competition of flowered houses.
This annual event sees individual houses, shops and balconies, as well as different strategic sites — city entrances, neighborhood centers — beautifully decorated by floral arrangements including annuals, grasses, vegetables, foliage plants, and orangery plants and perennials.
Other local attractions of Pat’s QTH include the Town Hall, Préblin Park and Park of the villa Chantoiseau, the Marina at the entrance to Burgundy Canal, The Peach and the Wood of Le Pot-Leve.
Known particularly for his fruitful efforts as a portable station in the striking local countryside, 14DA017 Pat’s collection of equipment is geared towards success in this area.
His transceiver of choice is a compact Icom IC-706 MK II which covers all nine HF ham bands and is modded for general coverage (11m).
This ultra-compact HF/VHF/UHF All Mode radio is perfect for dx adventure and is an important component of Pat’s portable station.
Seen pictured above, a 2-element delta loop antenna, employed on a 10m telescopic mast with a drive-on wheel plate, completes Pat’s imposing portable station.
But he’s also been known to employ a range of other vertical and horizontally polarized antennas in his adventures!
Away from the world of radio comms, Pat enjoys listening to music and he’s fortunate in that, at the heart of his city, near the train station, along the canal, the Cabaret L’Escale performance hall offers an immensely popular live music venue.
A diverse program, from rock to French song, including pop, ska, reggae and jazz music appeals to 14DA017 Pat’s tastes.
Rebuilt in 1950, on the ruins of the former dance hall of the Hôtel de la Réunion, blown up by bombs in June 1940, l’Escale opened its doors on October 6, 1951, and continues to welcome the big stars.
As these incredible pictures show, 14DA017 Pat is also a keen and profitable fisherman and the Burgundy Canal has proven to be a great location for this pastime.
Underneath the water’s surface of the 242km long canal, he’s able to catch Pike, Zander, Bream, Perch, Tench, Carp and more.
14DA017 Pat looks forward to meeting the challenges of Cycle 25 with his new Delta-Alfa callsign and can be found monitoring the International Call Frequency 27.555 MHz USB, with regularity.
He’s also committed to undertaking dx adventure in the coming years with other members of the 14 Division Team and providing some interesting DX for the global 11m DX Community.
