From the grassy green hills of Brittany in north-western France, our Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is excited to announce that member 14DA029 Pat will be active for the Eleven Meters and PMR Field Day (EPFD) on the last weekend of June, 2024.
The charming town of Châteaulin—a commune in the Finistère department on the River Aulne and the Canal de Nantes à Brest—is where our DX Man will be QRV, surrounded by Mountains of Arrée and Black Mountains and the Armorique Regional Park (FFF-0027) to the south.
This carefully selected perfect vantage point for serious DX action—some 150m above sea level—will afford 14DA029 Pat the most picturesque of locations for his portable station, excellent yagi take offs and a specular view of surrounding countryside…
The nearby slopes of Mont Banine, an area renowned for hiking, cycling and camping, the heritage rich town centre below, and pockets of farmland that extend as far as the eye can see, are just a few of the sights from this beautiful field location.
No doubt, 14DA029 Pat will also stock up on delicious treats from the local cake shop ‘Histoire de Macaron’ for his adventure in the field too!
Located in the Châteaulin town centre, this shop is famous for its tasty and wide range of macaroons as well as the Java, created in 1907 by Mister Le Meur, whom is a legend in the town!
The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) can confirm that the callsign 14DA/FD006 has been allocated by the EPFD Project Team, with the letters ‘FD’ an acronym for ‘Field Day’.
As you might expect for any DA guy, 14DA029 Pat has assembled an impressed portable station for his work from this QTH…
A compact Yaesu FT-DX10 HF/50MHz 100W SDR Transceiver with Narrow Band SDR with 3 types of roofing filters and phenomenal multi-signal receiving, matched with an M-70 microphone, is his choice of rig/mic ensemble.
Catering for both omni and directional DX work, SSD58+ vertical and 2 element delta-loop by PKW are his choice of antennas, while 2 masts—a Spiderbeam mast and an aluminium telescopic mast—will provide the support.
Alongside the transceivers and matching DX-cessories will be a WIN10 tablet for logging and cluster access.
Importantly, this station will be sustained by 2 x 200 Ah batteries + solar panels which satisfies EPFD guidelines.
