*MEET* 12DA101 Mario

The Dx Adventure Radio Club is elated to introduce to you 12DA101 Mario, from the colourful South American country of Uruguay.

Mario’s country shares borders with Argentina (4 Division) to its west and southwest and Brazil (3 Division) to its north and northeast, while bordering the Río de la Plata to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast.

One of his country’s most active Freeband DX Hunters, 12DA101 Mario connects with our club in August, 2023, satisfying membership requirements in the DX Hunter category.

With more than 40 years’ experience in Freeband communications, Mario is ultra-experienced in the dominion of 11m DX work but always seeking to improve his skills and achievements.

History reveals that this friendly and professional guy is a former member of the Papa Alfa Tango (PAT) and Thracian Rose (TRC) clubs respectively.

Armed with his new Delta-Alfa callsign, he’s looking forward to adding to his collection of 120 DXCC entities with the fresh and exciting band conditions supplied from Solar Cycle 25.

According to his membership application form, 12DA101 Mario’s home QTH is Aguas Dulces.

This is a resort town in the Rocha Department of southeastern Uruguay, an area known for its verdant interior and spectacular beach-lined coast which draws tourists from all over the world.

12DA101 Mario’s town—Aguas Dulces—is roughly 11 km southeast of Castillos and between the lagoons Laguna de Castillos and Laguna Negra.

Another fascinating location nearby is the La Rambla—a waterfront promenade, passes fish stalls, piers and parks.

12DA101 Mario’s selection of DX weaponry consists of a choice of no less than 4 high-profile ham transceivers—all modified for general coverage.

Anytone 6666, Kenwood TS-440, Kenwood TS-50 and Yaesu FT-817ND rigs provide the very best on-air platform for his DX-ploits.

Both vertical and directional antennas are installed on a tower outside his home which provide easy access to major DX markets across the globe.

Interestingly, antenna design and construction and short wave listening (SWL) are mentioned as favoured aspects of his hobby.

When he’s not in the chair of his radio shack, 12DA101 Mario works as a farmer.

An intriguing part time money earner is his tarot card service, divinatory readings believed to have originated in the early 14th century.

A lover of the outdoors, 12DA101 Mario fancies going to the beach, where he enjoys swimming and fishing, often with a radio playing his favourite rock music tunes in the background.

Always on the hunt for rare DX, 12DA101 Mario is QRV most days on Triple 5 where his “CQ calls” are among the loudest in 12 Division.

A QSL exchange with Mario is possible via DA-RC HQ SA with standard contribution thank you—See details below.
