Mentor Program

The Role of Mentor

DA-RC Mentors educate (inform, teach, instruct, coach and up-skill) members on a ‘needs basis only’ by way of mentoring around those issues related to the hobby.  Mentors associated with the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) are recommended to individual members where matters of need, however big or small, could include:

  • New member assimilation
  • Upgrade membership entry classification
  • All aspects of DXpedition preparation and planning
  • Product advice and information (pre and post purchase)
  • Technical support (antenna construction, transceiver repair/modifications, etc.)
  • Study for ham license

Who Are DA-RC Mentors?

DA-RC Mentors are suitably qualified persons who have a specific area of hobby expertise; skills and experience that, when shared with others, contribute to more rewarding hobby for all.

DA-RC Mentors consist of radio engineers, retail outlet owners, product representatives, licensed hams, journalists, experienced DXpedition adventurers, DX Hunters, and others who are dedicated to both improving members’ competencies and the betterment of radio communications in general.

One of the roles of a DA-RC Mentor, depending on his area of expertise, is to provide answers to important questions (e.g. about equipment selection, antennas, DXing, contesting, mobile operating, mobile marine, RF grounding, and RFI/TVI) and so help reduce any uncertainty or skill deficit which may exist.

How the Mentoring Process Works

Mentors communicate with members via email, text message, telephone, skyppe, online forums, on-air nets, or by written correspondence where necessary.  When proximity permits, some Mentors even like to discuss issues in face-to-face where they can demonstrate solutions to problems/best practice in person or talk through any problems which may occur.

The frequency and depth of any mentoring is determined by both parties on initial contact and usually occurs until the assistance is no longer required.

Becoming a Mentor

Current Mentors with DA-RC attest to the role providing them with an extremely rewarding experience – one that requires minimal time and effort, yet has a positive impact on the enjoyment of others.

The DA-RC Mentor Program Manager is 43DA001 Darren who will answer any further questions you may have around how the process works.

Darren can also explain how you can become involved as either a mentor or someone using the service.
