*MEET* 79DA734 Eyrol

The Philippines archipelago in Southeast Asia is home to Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) member 79DA734 Eyrol who signs with our club in late September 2021.

Pictured left with his wife, 79DA734 Eyrol is a licensed ham radio operator and passionate eleven meter band DX Hunter; one whom is committed to logging rare DX entities on all bands.

It’s these sublime efforts, seen regularly on the world’s clusters with previous callsigns such as 79DR734 and 79EYR001, which sees Eyrol accepted into the DA-RC via the DX Hunter category.

The DA-RC Membership Directory reveals that 79DA734 Eyrol resides in the City of Cabuyao in the province of Laguna, 42 km southeast of Metro Manila, on the island of Luzon.

The World IOTA Program’s data base lists this island as OC-042 and although it’s not regarded as a rare IOTA entity as such, it does provide an exciting gateway to nearby islands with more keenly sought after Oceanic references.

79DA734 Eyrol’s city, Cabuyao, is famous for its many festivals he says.

Since the City of Cabuyao was founded by Miguel López de Legazpi in 1571, the City Government of Cabuyao celebrates ‘Cabuyao Day’ every January 16.

This consists of a week-long celebration starting from a Parade of Floats of each barangay, in which the decorations of each float feature and showcase the way of living of the community of each barangay of Cabuyao.

The City of Cabuyao also celebrate the feast of the Child Jesus or Santo Niño every third Sunday of January.

It starts from a mass at the Cabuyao Church followed by a festival in which all Cabuyeños call it as ‘Santo Niño de Cabuyao Festival’.

The Batingaw Festival commemorates the legendary Kampanang Ginto.

It starts with the simultaneous ringing of church bells, which Cabuyeños believe brings good agricultural harvest.

Highlights of the 5 day festival include the parade of the Kampanang Ginto, colorful street dancing, a singing contest, trade fair exhibits, Mutya and Lakan ng Cabuyao and fireworks.

79DA734 Eyrol is a member of the San Pablo Amateur Communications Enthusiasts (SPACE) Inc.

This is a local ham radio club that involves itself with disaster relief work, nets, commemorative events, emergency radio operations and more.

79DA734 Eyrol’s home station is assembled for success on ham bands and 27 MHz frequencies.

It consists of an all-mode Icom IC-706 MKII-G transceiver (See below) which provides 100 watts on HF and 6 meters and 50 watts on 2 meters plus 20 watts on 440 MHz.

Outside his residence, high above the rooftop and overlooking the nearby Laguna Lake, a home-made 5/8 Astroplane antenna provides omnidirectional capability to achieve big signals to all major DX markets.

When he’s not chasing DX, spending time with his family or working the field of business development for the Solar Industry, 79DA734 Eyrol enjoys listening to heavy metal, rock and alternative music.

Nirvana, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bon Jovi are his favourite bands.

He also rides motorbikes, currently a 2006 Suzuki Skywave 400.

79DA734 Eyrol is QRV on the international call frequency 27.555 MHz USB.

He’s very happy to exchange QSL cards to confirm contacts with his station.
