*MEET* 79DA058 Nathaniel

Coat of Arms of the Philippines

The Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) is pleased to announce that veteran ham radio operator-cum eleven meter band enthusiast 79DA058 Nathaniel is the club’s newest member from the Republic of the Philippines, joining the club in February 2010.

Tremendously active on 11m since gaining his membership with the club, Nathaniel’s QTH is the Lumapao barangay in Canlaon City on 79 Division’s Negros Island.

This exquisite DXstination is home to the highest peak in the province, Canlaon Volcano, an ominous SOTA (Summits On The Air) target which is 2465 metres above sea level at its highest point.

Of 79 Division’s 7107 islands, Negros is probably one of the most fascinating for holiday-makers with active volcanoes, stunning beaches, beautiful freshwater waterfalls, fascinating Spanish culture, colourful festivals and friendly Negrense people.

Philippines FlagAs well as cattle ranches, fishing and fish farming, Nathaniel’s island is also illustrious for being the country’s major producer of sugar with sugar cane plantations plentiful in the agricultural areas of the island.

Consistent with the Radio Society of Great Britain’s IOTA program, Nathaniel’s island carries the OC-129 reference number and is part of the Visayan Islands group with a quantity of other islands — some of which include Batag, Boracay, Mahanay and Panay.

79DA058 Nathaniel’s island shack consists of an ICOM IC-735 with an MFJ Tuner, a 4 element yagi antenna and an Antron 99 vertical antenna by Solarcon.

It’s not surprising then that Nathaniel is one of the loudest stations in the Asia-Pacific area at this time.

Away from the radio communications hobby where Nathaniel is an ARRL member with a full call amateur licence, the 52 year old is a motor-mechanic and auto-shop owner which sometimes takes him overseas with his wife and 5 children.

In fact, work commitments have enabled Nathaniel to undertake radio operations on Guam Island in the past—a location from where he DXed for 6 years.

“I am a ham radio operator yes but I prefer 11m and am not so much active there these days,” says Nathaniel.  ” I also play basketball and enjoy motor bike riding…”

Welcome to the 79 Div DA-RC Team, 79DA058 Nathaniel

It’s terrific having you on board with the Club!
