*Meet* EA5IIX / 30DA012 Ruben

Kingdom of Spain based radio comms devotee EA5IIX / 30DA012 Ruben (Pictured above) joins the Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) in January 2017.

A Yaesu buff with some 25 years experience in the hobby, the DA-RC’s most recent 30 div DXer is widely acclaimed for his valuable contributions to the 11m DX Community in DX Club Leadership and DXpedition work.

He also boasts a reputation on the Iberian Peninsula as a DX Hunter of some note and features commonly in the logs of rare dx stations whenever they appear on the band.

EA5IIX / 30DA012 Ruben is a previous member of the Lima Radio, Maike Uniform, Bravo Romeo Charlie (BRC), Radio Sugar and Sugar Delta clubs in which he performed many leadership roles; Country Coordinator, QSL Manager, QSL Designer, Club Secretary and more.

EA5IIX / 30DA012 Ruben is also highly accomplished in the area of DXpedition work.

He’s undertaken a number of very successful Islands On The Air (IOTA), DXCC and Inland Water Islands (IWI) activities in the past and is determined to add to that quota during his time with the DA-RC.

As a DX Hunter in Europe’s 4th largest country, EA5IIX / 30DA012 Ruben has worked and confirmed more than 200 DXCC.

As a licensed amateur radio operator also, he has achieved similar feats on ham bands and is highly regarded for his involvement in the ham community; in contests, on forums, clusters and more.

murciaRuben’s home QTH in southwestern Europe is Murcia (meaning land of Myrtle), a picturesque city in south-eastern Spain.  This is the capital and most populous city of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, and the 7th largest city in the country.

Cartagena Harbour FortificationMurcia is reportedly located near the centre of a low-lying fertile plain.  It is known as ‘Europe’s orchard’ due to its long agricultural tradition and its fruit, vegetable, and flower production and exports.

According to the atlas, the Segura River – once one of Europe’s most polluted rivers but now one of its cleanest – and its right-hand tributary, the Guadalentín, run through the area.

Spanish Rice with ShrimpA large regional park, the Parque Regional de Carrascoy y el Valle, lies just to the south of the city.

Other touristy spots include the Cathedral of Murcia and a number of baroque buildings, Casa Cerdá in Santo Domingo square, the University of Murcia, Muslim architecture of the Alcázar Seguir in Santa Clara Museum, the Puente de los Peligros bridge, Holy Week procession works of art by the famous Murcian sculptor Francisco Salzillo, and the Fiestas de Primavera (Spring Festival).  The region is also renowned for its local cuisine.

In addition to visiting some of the landmarks and events above in his rec time, this self-proclaimed “family man” confesses a passion for travel.

He’s spent time holidaying in Cuba, Malaysia Myanmar, Laos, Russia, Poland, Montenegro, Croatia, Austria, France and Hungary. He is also fluent in Spanish, French and English.

It is this very spirit of adventure that makes the DA-RC a great fit for EA5IIX / 30DA012 Ruben and this will no doubt spurn him along to many new and exciting DXscapades in the years to come!
