2019 WIC Results

Results of the 2019 World Islands Contest (WIC) are in and Dx Adventure Radio Club (DA-RC) members feature in the top 5 placegetters in both the ‘Activants’ and ‘Hunters’ categories respectively.

In the ‘Team’ category, 14DA021 Eric and 14DA028 Phil excelled from Don Island as 14DA59003/R (See http://www.delta-alfa.com/activities/14da59003r/).

This is a small river island in the Canal de la Deûle in the Sainghin-en-Weppes, a commune in the Nord department in northern France.

Two of Europe’s most prolific and best-known Inland Water Islands (IWI) DXpeditioners, Eric and Phil finished in 5th spot with 53 QSOs and 63.6 points, just a handful of points behind the number 1 ranked team.

In the ‘Hunters’ section, big gun Island Chaser 14DA049 Fred accumulated 5 of the possible 8 islands in his log, all valued at 9 points each, to finish with 45 points.

With a massive 275 Hunters taking part, this is a very credible 3rd place finish to our French ‘Big Gun’.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in this exciting event and congratulations to the Project Manager 14DA028 Phil who continues to deliver such a professional experience for the world’s 11m Island enthusiasts.

With the Cycle 25 soon to make an upward trend, no doubt participation in the World Islands Contest (WIC) will take off in the coming years also, as islands become more accessible and operators are lured back to the world’s best HF DX band.
