Known for its spectacular palm-lined beaches and isolated hilltop villages, the thin strip of land that is the ‘Togo Republic’ is located on West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea, the most north-eastern part of the tropical Atlantic Ocean.

According to the atlas, this pint-sized DXCC entity borders the Bight of Benin in the south; Ghana (77 Division) lies to the west; Benin (183 Division) to the east; and to the north, Togo is bound by Burkina Faso (170 Division).

It covers 57,000 square km making it one of the smallest countries in AF, with a population of roughly 7.5 million.

One of our club’s best known DXpedition operatives, Herve (Also 14DA012) now resides for employment purposes in Lomé — the capital and largest city of Togo.

In this city are the multistory Grand Marché bazaar and the Fetish Market, offering traditional talismans and remedies relating to the ancient vodun religion (aka voodoo).

Herve’s new home is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation, highly dependent on agriculture, with a climate that provides good growing seasons.

The official language here is French, with many other languages spoken in Togo, particularly those of the Gbe family.

164DA101 Herve reports to staying in the rare AF DXCC for the next 4 years or so.  He looks forward to working as many operators as possible and has already provided some ATNO’s for many of the world’s seasoned DX Hunters!
